Norbulingka palace, known as the
Jewel Park was the summer palace of His Holy Highness, Dalai Lama. It is
a large complex of palaces, chapels, pavilions and
gardens. Jhokhang Temple is Tibet's most sacred temple and
houses the Jowo Sakyamini. The most impressive structure
here are the many chapels surrounding it. Barkhor Bazaar
surrounds the Jhokhang Temple and is a very popular place.
About 5 km away from Lhasa lies Sera Monastery, set in
prettiest and most charming atmosphere. It used to be an
important center of learning. The most intriguing feature
here is the nine-meter image of Maitreya. Once Tibet's largest
monastery, Drepung
Monastery lies a mere 10 km from the city. It was the
residence of the third,
fourth and the fifth Dalai Lama. The most prominent and
the most interesting
feature in this tour is the Potala Palace. It is a 13th storied complex monument
rising to a height of above 117 m which houses 10,000
shrines and over 200,000 images.
